SchoolAid's Indigenous Literacy Campaign
Did you know that only one in five kids in remote Indigenous communities can read to the acceptable minimum standard?
SchoolAid's Indigenous Literacy Campaign in support of the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF) asks Aussie kids to lend a hand to close this gap.
With the help of a $25,000 investment from bankmecu, SchoolAid enables and empowers primary school kids to make a tangible difference to the lives of other children - kids helping kids - through commitment and action.
SchoolAid is working with the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation to roll out literacy initiatives to children in regional and remote communities such as Palm Island, Groote Eylandt, Tennant Creek, Port Lincoln, Wagga Wagga and many more.
Improved literacy levels have been linked to increased academic and occupational success, improved self esteem, participation in and commitment to education and higher levels of socially accepted behaviour. The benefits to improved literacy have a positive impact on not only the students, but their families and the wider community.
Lend a hand to ALNF and help raise awareness for their innovative programs by creating an online Wall of Hands at www.wallofhands.com.au. Ask friends, colleagues and family to sponsor your Wall and truly make a difference.
bankmecu's involvement in this program is only made possible because of the number of schools and individuals involved in education who choose to bank with bankmecu.
