Trust for Nature works with visionary people and organisations, such as bankmecu, to protect biodiversity forever.
Trust for Nature was established in 1972 to assist with the conservation of native plants and wildlife on private land. A great deal has been achieved towards this goal, and among the community, there is great energy and support to conserve more biodiversity - permanently.
Trust for Nature works with members of the community to protect the natural environment through legally-binding voluntary Conservation Covenants. There are now more than 1,100 Conservation Covenants protecting more than 43,000 hectares; all thanks to the hard work and dedication of landholders and donors.
Trust for Nature also owns 44 properties that protect almost 34,000 hectares of high-value habitat for wildlife. Many of these properties are lovingly tended to by volunteers from the local community.
To further develop private land conservation techniques, this year we established the Trust for Nature Land Management Innovation Fund. The Innovation Fund is an exciting new resource for the Trust, which allows our dedicated conservation staff to develop and deliver new conservation projects.
One project being supported by this new fund is protecting the endangered Southern Brown Bandicoot from feral cats through innovative use of monitoring by sensor cameras, and is a terrific example of the kind of innovative work that Trust for Nature is proud to be known for.
