Melbourne storm damage 25 Dec - insurance

    28 Dec 2011

Following the Melbourne hail storm on Christmas Day, to date, Allianz has received many claims for domestic building and contents, commercial properties and motor vehicle damage.

As it is early days, Allianz anticipate this number will increase and are ready to draw upon additional dedicated staff committed to ensuring that impacted bankmecu customers receive prompt assistance.

    What Allianz is doing:

    • National phone support since 7.30 am on Boxing Day, with consultants ready to take member calls.
    • Radio (Mix 101.1 and Gold) and newspaper (Herald Sun) advertisements publicising their contact details.
    • For motor vehicle claims, the process is being expedited with two assessment centres in operation at Tullamarine (Pickles) and Melton (Melton Body Works). Please note that your members should not go to these centres directly, but should contact Allianz first who will arrange a booking time for them.

We recognise that this is a difficult time for all concerned and Allianz will do everything possible to provide a fast decision for bankmecu customers.

Customers whose property and/or motor vehicle(s) have been damaged by this event, should:

    1. Notify Allianz as soon as possible.

Due to the volume of calls, Allianz are experiencing some delays and recommend that you lodge your notification online at www.allianzclaims.com.au and one of their consultants will contact you to arrange an assessment. However, if this is not possible, then you can contact Allianz on 13 1000.

    2. Remove any possessions damaged by water or mud, (e.g. carpets and soft furnishings) for hygiene reasons.

    3. Supply the following to ensure a quick and efficient claims process:

If possible, take photos and record details of any damaged items before they are removed. It is recommended that a small sample of the water-damaged carpet/soft furnishing is kept in case it is required by our loss adjusters.

    4. An inventory of all the possessions that have been damaged.
