bankmecu gives homeowners an even better reason to go greener
To encourage people to reduce their environmental footprint and celebrate its sponsorship of Grand designs Live in Melbourne, bankmecu has cut its interest rate on the goGreen home loan by 19 points, taking the rate down from 5.98 to 5.79 per cent.
The goGreen home loans are designed to encourage people to purchase, construct or renovate energy efficient homes to achieve a minimum seven star energy rating.
bankmecu’s Managing Director, Damien Walsh said going green has never been so easy or cost effective.
“We think that encouraging people to build more environmentally responsible houses is so important that we have reduced this rate outside the normal cycle of Reserve Bank announcements.
“Not only is bankmecu cutting its rate, we are encouraging international level design in green houses.
“When your house has a seven star rating you can potentially save hundreds of dollars in power bills and your house is naturally cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
“We think it is increasingly important for lenders to have responsible standards – not only economically but in social and environmental terms too.
“Interest rates are an important cost consideration for consumers. If we lower the interest rates for green homes, we hope to make it easier for people to build and live in green homes.
“bankmecu is committed to a sustainable future through our Conservation Landbank to offset the carbon footprint for new homes that we finance.
“This allows us to reduce the impact caused from new home buildings, without imposing the costs on the customer,” Mr Walsh said.
