Verified by VISA is an online service designed to make Internet transactions safer, at participating merchants, through the authentication of the cardholder's identity at the time of purchase. It provides reassurance to both the cardholder and to the merchant that they are engaging in a genuine transaction.
Each time a customer makes an online purchase with a participating merchant; the VbV program assesses the risk level of the transaction. Certain activity may seem out of the ordinary – maybe because it's a high dollar value transaction, or it may be a retailer that the customer has never used before.
When a bankmecu VISA cardholder makes an online purchase that is deemed as high risk, the customer may be asked to confirm some personal details – like their card number, name on the card or date of birth – so bankmecu can be sure that the card is not being used without the customers permission. Information only needs to be provided to verify the customer's identity (customer privacy is our priority).
This program complements bankmecu's current transaction monitoring system. bankmecu will register all VISA cards for this program automatically. This service is provided free of charge.
