To get the most for your money, it is more cost effective to send your payment in the beneficiary’s currency than to send Australian Dollars. A foreign bank that does not often receive currency in Australian Dollars will tend to charge high fees and uncompetitive rates in order to convert and then deposit the amount in their customer’s local bank account.
You can send your payment by either Telegraphic Transfer or Draft:
1. Telegraphic Transfers
A telegraphic transfer is an electronic transfer of funds into an overseas bank account. We’re able to send funds quickly and efficiently, and transfers are available in over 70 currencies. Funds are expected to be credited within 2-3 business days to your intended beneficiary’s bank account.
2. Drafts
A draft is basically a cheque in a foreign currency, and is a cost effective option for sending money abroad. Just let us know who the draft is to be made payable to, the currency you want the draft in (a choice of over 50 currencies is offered), and the amount of money you want to send.
Your draft will normally be available next working day. You can then post it to the recipient overseas, and they deposit it into their bank account.
Foreign Money Conversion
If you have received foreign money in the form of a cheque or overseas bank draft, bankmecu can accept foreign currency cheques and banknotes, for conversion to Australian Dollars. Conditions apply – please ask us for details.
