Make an impact – become a community investor

The CUFA Village Entrepreneur program supports people in developing countries to change their lives and step out of poverty by providing training, start up materials and financial support to start a local micro-business.

Many people in developing countries, especially those living in rural and remote areas, do not have access to financial services – to learn how to save or to borrow at affordable interest rates without being exploited. So it’s difficult or impossible for many people to improve their income by creating or expanding small businesses, the backbone of strong and sustainable communities.

CUFA links village entrepreneurs with community investors in Australia who want to provide around a dollar a day to support an individual to achieve financial independence, improve their lives and support their family.

Community Investors receive regular reports on their village entrepreneur and gain great sense of achievement and pride as their business becomes sustainable and stable.

bankmecu staff recently took part in the programme and assisted Art Channy, a struggling Cambodian mother to start her own small business. Since being sponsored by the bankmecu community investor group, she has expanded her piggery. The money she has made from this has allowed her family to build their own home. Art and her family are very grateful for the assistance they have received from the bankmecu community investor group.
