mecu supports the United Nations Global Compact
mecu has reaffirmed its support of the ten principles of the United Nations (UN) Global Compact.
The UN Global Compact is a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
mecu became the first credit union in Australia to join the UN Global Compact in April 2010, demonstrating leadership across the Australian mutual banking sector and to other organisations around the globe. Supporting the UN Global Compact provides mecu with a platform to share and exchange best and emerging practices to advance practical solutions and strategies to deal with common challenges.
Integration of the Global Compact and its principles into mecu’s business strategy, culture and daily operations, will assist to further develop and promote our responsible approach to banking. That’s why, mecu’s Sustainable Development Committee has developed the UN Global Compact Action Plan to address the ten principle areas. All action items are the specific responsibility of designated members of mecu’s Senior Management Team.
mecu supports public accountability and transparency and therefore commits to submit a Communication on Progress annually.
