Verified by VISA Frequently Asked Questions

    what is Verified by VISA?

Verified by VISA (or VbV) is an online service designed to make Internet transactions safer at participating merchants through the authentication of the cardholder's identity at the time of purchase.

It provides reassurance to both the cardholder, and to the merchant that they are each engaging in a genuine transaction. All existing and new VISA cards are automatically registered for this service.

    how does it work?

Each time a customer makes an online purchase with a participating merchant, the Verified by VISA program assesses the risk level of the transaction. Certain activity may seem out of the ordinary - maybe because it's a high dollar value transaction, or a retailer they have never bought from before.

In these instances the customer may be asked to confirm some simple personal details. In doing so bankmecu can be sure that the card isn't be used without the customers permission.

Privacy is our priority - the information is used only to verify the customers identity.

Once this process is complete, the purchase will be authorised and the transaction will be processed as normal.

Unless Verified by VISA detects a certain degree of risk with the transaction, the customer won't even notice it working behind the scenes to protect the card while shopping online and there won't be any interruptions on the way to the ‘checkout'.
