bankmecu strives to embed economic, social and environmental accountability across all aspects of its operation and to make it the responsibility of all employees from the Board of Directors to the most junior staff.
To help bankmecu demonstrate its commitment to sustainability, the Company:
- became a signatory to the United Nations Environment Programme Statement by Financial Institutions on the Environment and Sustainable Development (UNEP FI) in 2003 and was the first credit union in the world to do so
- entered into a three-year Sustainability Covenant with EPA Victoria in 2005, which was extended for a further three years in 2008
- published its first sustainability report in 2005 and has continued to report annually
- became a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UN GC) in 2010
- became a signatory to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI) in 2010; and
- developed a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in collaboration with Reconciliation Australia in 2010.
