mecu's australasian reporting award: special award for sustainability
mecu's 2008 Sustainability Report won an Australasian Reporting Award - Special Award for Sustainability. The Australasian Reporting Awards (ARA) are run by an independent not-for profit organisation and exist to continually improve reporting standards. The ARA emerged from a concern about the quality of financial and business reporting, supported by volunteers from the business community. ARA recognises the importance of reporting as an essential component of accountability and governance. ARA criteria demand a high standard of reporting and incorporate the requirements of the Global Reporting Initiative, an internationally recognised reporting tool. The Awards provide the opportunity to publicly acknowledge those organisations demonstrating leadership. As a result, the ARA is highly regarded, attracts an outstanding calibre of entrants and is very competitive.
Winning an ARA Special Award for Sustainability recognises mecu's transparency, inclusivity, accuracy, responsiveness to stakeholders, effective communication and commitment to maintaining a high standard of reporting. Furthermore, the Award highlights mecu's commitment to sustainability.
Winning this award is an exceptional effort for a relatively small player up against some big household names. mecu will endeavour to keep up the good work and continue to produce a leading report for its stakeholders.
